Everybody knows that the best foods we can eat are whole grains, lean meats along with healthy fats. These are the foods that will give us the energy and protein we need. They help our bodies remain balanced without infusing a variety of calories that we will have to work extra hard to burn off at the gym. Did you realize though that a few of the diet foods you’ve been consuming may have been hindering your ability to lose weight? They could possibly be even adding fat laden calories to your body! Here are some of the foods that may be undermining your diet efforts.
Sports Drinks tend not to really help you. You’ve probably been thinking that the sports drink is the best way to help your whole body feel much better after a workout. Many health professionals agree, though, that if your workout is under ninety minutes, water is a fine way to do this. Sports drinks are full of sugar and calories and a lot of other things you don’t need like artificial flavors and colors which defeat any attempts at eating only natural products. Choose chocolate milk for your drink as an alternative. Your body uses the sugar within the chocolate for muscle repair and everyone knows how good milk is for you.
Protein Shakes are not a person’s friend. So many people assume that drinking a protein shake is a good way to halt cravings when it isn’t meal time. What you’re actually doing, especially if the rest of your diet consists of whole and healthy foods, is helping your body overdose on protein. Contrary to popular opinion, protein does not get kept as muscle, it gets stored as fat. This shows that should you have taken in a lot of protein during the day your body stores what it doesn’t need in your fat, which won’t help you lose weight or inches at all.
Pre-packaged deli meat is not very healthful at all. It’s commonly thought that a sandwich constructed of whole grain bread and lean pre-packaged deli meat is a pretty good lunch time item. Actually, pre-packaged deli meat has way too many preservatives and sodium (one portion contains about a third of the amount of sodium you should eat in a day). This could be particularly tricky if you are prone to heart disease. Instead of purchasing the pre-packaged products, you need to instead use home cooked poultry or freshly sliced meat from your grocery store’s deli counter. Yes you are going to spend more money for these selections but you will be healthier if you choose them.
There are all kinds of things that we believe will help us lose weight: eating a whole wheat bagel in the morning, for instance is actually a lot worse for you than a bowl of oatmeal with some cinnamon sprinkled into it for flavor. Ask your physician precisely what the best ways for you to eat healthfully are and then follow those directions. If you understand and are careful about what sort of food you let yourself eat, losing weight isn’t going to be a terribly big deal.
